Meet Mapenzi

Mapenzi

We met Mapenzi for the first time in November 2015. Mapenzi is nine years old and lives with his four sisters and one brother in a small mud hut in Mwezamoyo, a village in Bamba.

The children sadly lost their mother and have since been taken care of by their elderly grandmother. Their father migrates in search of casual work to provide for the family.

BAMBA’s initial support for the family was a transfer of small livestock: a goat and chickens. We will never forget how eager Mapenzi was to take care of the goat! He was certainly a pro at handling the animal.

We spoke to Mapenzi recently and told him that we would like to introduce him to our supporters and he welcomed this very much. A short interview followed.

We learned that Mapenzi loves riding a bicycle and he knows how to ride a big adult bike – impressive! Football is his other hobby. He plays with his friends with a ball made out of plastic bags and a string. Mapenzi likes to go to school and has very good grades. His favourite subject is Math, but he also likes to study Kiswahili.

BAMBA Program supports Mapenzi and his siblings on a monthly basis, assisting their carers in ensuring that the children are healthy, go to school and grow to have a better future. Mapenzi has been lucky to have a Child Supporter from Poland since May 2017!
