Who helps on the ground

BAMBA Team

We are able to support children and their families only thanks to a group of wonderful and committed individuals, putting in their time, talent, and experience, all to make our program succeed.

Village groups and elders have been key to our program from the beginning, when identifying destitute children and homes. Most villagers in Bamba experience poverty, so it is crucial that any intervention spearheaded from outside has the local buy-in, is accepted and re-shaped to meet needs and concerns. We have been very lucky to be able to find a common language with community members and chiefs and are lifting together people out of destitution.

Rosy has been our office champ since this spring (or long rains in Kenya 🙂 ). Rosy is after high school and her aim to join the government teacher training next April. We are very lucky that before taking this next step, she decided to help BAMBA. Rosy communicates with supporters, looks after our Child Support scheme, and deals greatly with new administrative challenges!

Patrick and other professional consultants are key people assisting with their expertise in moments when specific, often technical knowledge, local context understanding are needed. Patrick, who has coordinated livestock development for the whole region on behalf of the government, has helped us give  direction to our Livelihoods Support Project.

Joseph, with the local status of an elder and years of community work as a teacher and, later, rural extension worker for the Government of Kenya is BAMBA Program’s great asset. He advises on many issues, works in operations and gets regularly involved with beneficiaries! We are very lucky to have our mzee Joseph!

Marcin, SOAS Development Studies graduate, anti-poverty advocate, has for past six months supported operations on the ground in Bamba.
